The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) is now accepting applications for its annual Water Savvy Landscape Contest. The goal of the program is to promote outdoor water use efficiency by recognizing customers whose landscapes are both beautiful and water efficient. The contest is open to CVWD residential customers and will run through March 31, 2021. One grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card to a local nursery, sponsored by Southern California Edison, a sign for their yard, and other recognition.
Landscapes will be judged based on the following criteria: water use efficiency, appearance, plant selection, and irrigation design. Overall natural resource conservation will be evaluated. Examples include water efficient plants, high efficiency sprinkler systems, use of artificial turf, permeable hardscapes and organic materials.
“Approximately 60% of household water is used outdoors for landscaping, and we commend residents who are doing their part to be water wise through their efficient landscapes,” stated CVWD Board President Randall James Reed. “The Landscape Contest is a great way for CVWD to showcase examples of water efficient landscapes that also beautify our community. If you or your neighbors have a model landscape, we encourage you to apply!”
CVWD is committed to assisting customers in improving outdoor water use efficiency and educating residents through programs like the Water Savvy Garden Tour, its water timer tune-up programs, and virtual drought tolerant landscape workshops.
